Birthday "Party"

We planned to celebrate Xuan's 1st yr party bash at Aloha Loyang. But we were only notified that the chalet has been used as quarrantine for "suspected swime flu" carriers juz a wk b4 our booking date.. Tot of changing location to our humble huse, but the weather has been bad recently. Few of the invited guests has or is still recoverin from flu/cough... Since there will b a substantial number of little children, we decided to call off the party to prevent the children catchin any unwanted "bugs".. Although we had spend abt $100 for the deocration n goodie packs to be distributed at the party. Still, we were lucky that we have not booked the caterer. The booking of customised cake at Pine Garden was able to cancel. The BBQ materials was not bought yet. Thus minimise our "lose" quite abit...

End up, we had a buffet lunch at Sakura with our two families. Since the cake from Pine Garden was canceled, n there no longer a need to hv a big cake for everyone to eat. I decided to bake one small one for Xuan instead. (the rest can juz eat the cakes available at the buffet... *wink*) Started makin from 9pm. bake twice the cake, as the first cake was not able to come out from the mold nicely. Part of the shape was cracked. no longer look like a heart shape... thus hv to redo. being tryin with rolled fondant for a a few times, but was unsucessful. So decided to try mashmallow fondant instead. Finally suceeded in making a fondant that I can use for the cake. Make two batches after the test batch for different color (Pink n White).

After all the bakin n cleanin up. was finally able to bath n slp at 3am... Very tiring, but feel proud of my first bake cake, not to mentioned that it a decorated cake as well!!

The family outside the sakura resturant.

Of cos, since it a birthday, there must be a present!! We bought a flatout bear for Xuan. It a 100% Australian sheepskin shaped like a teddy bear. Very soft n cuddly.

Initially, she seems quite happy with it.. but later the nite, she appears to be afraid of grabbin it instead. hopefully, she will b more interested in it as time goes....
